My Journey with the Ramadan Coding Challenge 2024

From Hopeful Applicant to Mobile App Innovator

Introduction

Hello, my name is Mohamed Osman. I am a recent graduate of SIMAD University and the founder of Verboscope, a linguistic agency that offers services in over 120 languages. Today, I want to share my exciting journey through the Ramadan Coding Challenge 2024, organized by MTI Institute.

The Exciting Beginning

It all started with a LinkedIn post announcing the registration for the Ramadan Coding Challenge 2024. Intrigued, I filled out the registration form, hoping to be selected. The anticipation was intense.

On Saturday, March 30, at 9:27 PM, I received an email:

"Salaam, Dear Applicant,
Congratulations! You have been selected to continue with the application process for the RAMADAN CODING CHALLENGE 2024 Program at MTI Institute. Please join this WhatsApp Group."

I was thrilled! The next step was an interview scheduled for Sunday, March 31. It lasted about five minutes, but it felt like an eternity. A few days later, on April 5, at 7:32 PM, I received another email:

"We are delighted to inform you that you have been successfully selected to participate in the Ramadan Coding Challenge Program this year 2024. Congratulations on being selected! We were impressed by your application, skills, and experiences, and we believe that you have the potential to thrive in our program."

The Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was on April 6, 2024, at Java Hall in Taleh. The hall buzzed with excitement and anticipation. We had two main tracks to choose from: web development and mobile app development. I chose the mobile app track because of my passion for creating impactful mobile solutions.

Team Formation and Project Idea

We formed a team consisting of four members and a facilitator. After brainstorming potential projects, we decided to focus on an app that addresses environmental sustainability. Our facilitator provided invaluable guidance as we refined our idea: a waste disposal management app called Deegaamiye. Each team member was assigned a specific role, and we set out to develop the app over the next 12 days.

Development Phase

The development phase was intense but rewarding. Our goal was to create an app that would enable citizens to report waste using a simple photo. The app would then share this information with local government authorities, facilitating swift and efficient waste management. Despite facing numerous challenges, we persevered, motivated by the potential impact of our project on the environment.

Pitching Day

April 20, 2024, was Pitching Day. We presented Deegaamiye to a panel of judges. Despite being grilled with tough questions, we showcased our app with pride. Our presentation emphasized the app’s potential to drive efficiency and sustainability in urban waste management.

"The Deegaamiye App team unveiled a revolutionary project aimed at transforming waste management in our cities. 🌆 Citizens can now report waste with a simple photo, and the app automatically shares this information with local government authorities. 📸 With seamless communication and swift action, Deegaamiye App is driving efficiency and sustainability in urban areas."

The Upcoming Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony is scheduled for June 13, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Astaan Theatre. This event will award the teams that excelled in the competition. As we await the results, I am hopeful that our hard work and dedication will be recognized.

Conclusion

Participating in the Ramadan Coding Challenge 2024 has been an incredible journey. From the initial application to the final presentation, I have learned and grown tremendously. The experience has reinforced my belief in the power of technology to address pressing environmental issues. Regardless of the outcome at the closing ceremony, I am proud of what our team has accomplished with Deegaamiye.

As we look forward to the future, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. The Ramadan Coding Challenge has not only honed my coding skills but also instilled in me a deeper commitment to making a positive impact on our community and the environment.
